A new routine

We returned from our Michigan adventures a little over a month ago. Our more enthusiastic readers may be wondering what we've been doing? How come there are no updates? And, to them we say: "Who are you, our boss? We have no boss. We're gainfully unemployed, not full time travel bloggers." But if you must ask, we're slowly settling into a nice relaxing routine. Like most routines, they don't involve taking beautiful pictures of stunning vistas or putting ourselves into novel situations that lead to good stories. This is your warning that this blog post may be a bit more mundane than some of our previous posts.
On a typical day Adam wakes up slightly before 7am, and like most people he grabs his phone to check the latest YouTube recommendations. He then thinks to himself, ambitiously, "I wonder if I could get a round of disc golf in before she wakes up..." So he gets up, brushes his teeth and gets dress for a "quick" round of disc golf. Being a light sleeper, Helen wakes up the moment Adam moves, but at this point Adam is committed. So he kisses Helen on the forehead; and quietly slinks away. As soon as Adam closes the door, Kovu, our beloved cat, runs up from his resting place on the couch to curl up next to Helen for some morning cuddles in the bed.
Once outside, Adam pulls his motorcycle out of the garage, swings his leg over the bike, and rides off to the Golden Gate Park Disc Golf course, usually arriving around 7:30am. After warming up his putt, playing a round, and then maybe doing a bit of practice putting after his round Adam's hunger gets the best of him and he makes his way home for some breakfast.
Around 8am Helen rolls out of bed to make coffee and either go on a run or work on trip planning. Around 10:00 is when Adam gets back from disc golf and we get to enjoy a hot breakfast together, usually something simple with scrambled eggs. If we're lucky Helen will have a fresh baked sourdough loaf for avocado toast.
From 10:30 - noon is Adam's YouTube time. This is where he lays down on the couch and watches YouTube. Around noon is lunch time this is usually a less gourmet meal; comprised of leftovers we scrounge from our fridge. Then there's a solid 1 hour slot of productive time after lunch where we post something new to Facebook marketplace, book a ticket for an upcoming trips, or write this blog post.
After our "productive time" Adam starts to think "I should probably get a work out in." He then coaxes Helen into going on a bike ride in order to get in shape for the Korea cycling trip. Without the sense of urgency created by a traditional work schedule we typically dance around each other asking if the other person is ready to go for the next 30-60 minutes. Once we've mustered our energy, we set off on a nice bike ride around San Francisco.
At about 5pm we get home from the bike ride, take turns showering and then we begin dinner. If we need, we walk around the corner to our local San Francisco grocery store called Gus's. Gus's boasts great produce selection, a friendly vibe, and neighborhood convenience all at neighborhood prices (yes, our neighborhood is in San Francisco).
After a healthy dinner that's usually led by Chef Helen; some favorites being a tofu quinoa bowl with fresh veggies or a salmon potato soup with homemade chicken broth, we begin our evening ritual. For our evening ritual we sit down on the couch and play 2 hours of playing Baldur's Gate 3 together, our favorite video game. At about 9:30pm we start to get sleepy; so Adam usually steps up to clean the dishes (since Helen usually leads the cooking).
By 10pm we brush our teeth. Helen nags Adam to floss; which he does from time to time. We then turn on our current audio-book Sourcery by Terry Pratchett; Adam hands Helen the iPad so that she can pause the book when he inevitable falls asleep first. The next morning we wake up and do it all over again. It's peaceful routine; that some may even call a bit boring, but we enjoy it.
